So observes "Mutt" Higgins, a brain-damaged, marginalized, and, above all, lonely young man whose life contains little that is glamorous or neat or tidy, and much that is harsh, ugly and painful. In short, his life really sucks.
At times, though, it can also be pretty damn funny.
In his first novel, Russell Neil Haupt narrates the youthful experiences of "Mutt" Higgins in frank and decidedly politically incorrect prose that is gritty yet lyrical, colorful yet lean, at times angry yet ultimately compassionate. A near fatal accident, rejection by his peers, and substance abuse leave him ill-prepared to serve a Mormon mission, which turns out to be a lot messier than he or his family had anticipated. Kind of like life in general.
